A Rare Star Wars Lightsaber Goes Up for Auction
Follow spoken words in real time.
A famous film object, Darth Vader’s lightsaber from Star Wars, is being sold to a new owner. This special prop was used by the character Darth Vader in The Empire Strikes Back, the 1980 movie, and again in Return of the Jedi in 1983. The lightsaber is a main item at a coming sale held by Heritage Auctions, a well-known auction company for collecting items.
The object is valuable because it was used in important scenes of Star Wars. For example, in The Empire Strikes Back, Darth Vader fights Luke Skywalker and reveals he is Luke’s father, which is a legendary moment in film history. The lightsaber was made from real equipment, like a camera-flash handle, and was changed by the filmmakers to look futuristic.
Bids for this Darth Vader lightsaber are expected to start at US$1 million. In the past, a similar prop sold for US$3.65 million, and another related lightsaber sold for US$3.75 million. Now, collectors have a chance to buy this famous piece of film history.
