In a recent and striking revelation, the son of a producer associated with Snow White has launched a vehement critique of actress Rachel Zegler, asserting that her remarks on social media have inflicted considerable harm upon the film’s potential success. Jonah Platt, offspring of producer Marc Platt, took to Instagram to articulate his defense of his father amid backlash from Zegler’s supporters, prompted by a Variety article. This piece disclosed that Platt was dispatched to New York City in August at Disney’s behest, with the express purpose of persuading Zegler to retract a comment she had made on X, in which she expressed support for a “free Palestine” while acknowledging fans of Snow White.
Amidst this controversy, one commenter disparaged Marc Platt as “creepy as hell,” asserting that the producer’s attempts to control Zegler’s posts were “uncalled for.”
In a reply that has since been deleted, Jonah Platt, who also hosts the Being Jewish podcast, articulated skepticism about the validity of such critiques. He stated, “My father, the producer of a major Disney intellectual property, had to momentarily step away from his familial responsibilities to confront his twenty-year-old employee about intertwining her personal political beliefs with the promotional obligations stipulated in her multimillion-dollar contract.”
He elaborated, “This exemplifies the principles of adult accountability. Her actions evidently jeopardized the film’s financial return, as thousands of individuals labored on this project, and her self-serving desires diverted attention away from their collective efforts. Such narcissism should not be facilitated.”
Although Disney has refrained from issuing an immediate statement, nor have representatives for Jonah or Marc Platt provided comment. Jonah Platt remains a vocal advocate against antisemitism and has previously condemned public figures such as Kanye West for incendiary comments.
Marc Platt had previously addressed the topic of actors voicing political opinions in discussions on his son’s podcast, highlighting the complexity of such expressions amid ongoing global suffering.
Last weekend, Snow White debuted with disappointing figures, grossing an estimated $43 million in its opening weekend, with a global total of merely $87.3 million against a staggering $270 million production budget. Critics’ responses were predominantly negative, with a mere 42 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
