Jason Brown
During the course of orchestrating a summer vacation to Amsterdam and Ireland, Jason Brown eschewed traditional guides and social media influencers in favor of a cutting-edge technological tool.
Specifically, the founder of the recruitment agency People Movers engaged the generative AI platform ChatGPT, posing a myriad of inquiries to craft an intricate itinerary for his ten-day excursion in July and August. Accompanied by his wife and two sons aged 20 and 16, as well as a friend of his eldest son, the planning phase revealed the potency of AI.
“Previously, I would rely on platforms like TripAdvisor, but I recognized that AI could synthesize information in a mere 15 seconds, offering actionable insights,” he remarked, characterizing the experience as “fantastic.”
ChatGPT not only furnished him with a golf itinerary for Dublin but also provided a meticulously segmented schedule for exploring other locales in Ireland—organizing activities by morning, afternoon, and evening.
For instance, it advised a morning arrival, a leisurely afternoon at Trinity College and Grafton Street, followed by a vibrant evening in Temple Bar. As the details of his journey evolved, so too did his inquiries to the AI platform.
While he adopted numerous AI-generated recommendations, Brown supplemented them with insights garnered from an online community of fellow alumni, alongside guidance from an Amsterdam-based friend, which led to serendipitous discoveries beyond the AI’s reach.
“This dual approach allowed us to immerse ourselves in experiences that might have eluded AI’s typical suggestions,” he noted. “Nonetheless, it provided a robust framework for our travels, outlining a comprehensive overview of attractions to explore.”
AI is permeating diverse aspects of our existence, including travel planning. Beyond ChatGPT, other generative AI applications, such as Google’s Gemini, Microsoft’s Copilot, and specialized travel planning tools like Trip Planner, have emerged.
According to a survey conducted by Sainsbury’s Bank Travel Money, a noteworthy one in ten Britons have already harnessed AI for travel planning, while a further one in five expressed intentions to do so in the future.
