Last Sunday, the Oscar awards were held. An interesting movie called “Anora” won the best award. The movie, made for just $6 million, is about a woman who is a sex worker.
Sean Baker directed “Anora”. His movie was named the best movie of the year by the Hollywood experts. The Oscars chose “Anora” as best movie. This movie has more than 400 uses of the F-word and it talks a lot about sexuality.
There were some issues with actors being nominated for the wrong categories. Some actors who played big roles were nominated for supporting roles. This is something that needs to be fixed in future award shows.
And because of a social media scandal, nominees will have to clean up their online images before future awards shows.
“Anora” is an independent film. It won five of the six categories it was nominated in. The movie’s win gives hope to other independent filmmakers.
Movies that are first shown at film festivals but only released much later sometimes struggle to win awards. This happened with two movies, “Sing Sing” and “His Three Daughters”.
The Oscars also gave awards to people from different cultures and backgrounds. Movie experts and artists feel that this is a good step in the right direction.
