Data of all Santander staff and millions of customers compromised in large-scale hack

Share

A cybercrime group known as ShinyHunters has claimed to be in possession of confidential information from millions of Santander bank customers and employees. The group has allegedly posted an advert on a hacking forum offering data that includes bank account details, credit card numbers, and HR information for staff members.

Santander has confirmed that data has been stolen from customers in Chile, Spain, and Uruguay, as well as current and former employees. The bank has apologized for the breach and is reaching out to those affected. It reassured customers that their banking systems are secure, despite the data breach.

Although Santander has not commented on the accuracy of the claims made by ShinyHunters, experts are advising caution. The cyber-security company Hudson Rock has linked the Santander breach and another recent incident involving Ticketmaster to a hack of a large cloud storage company called Snowflake. Snowflake has stated that there was unauthorized access to a limited number of customer accounts but no sensitive data was compromised.

The FBI and the Australian government are involved in investigating the incidents, with concerns rising over the security of sensitive information. Despite the potential risk, some experts believe that the claims made by ShinyHunters could be a publicity stunt. The situation is ongoing, and authorities are working to address the breaches and ensure the security of customer data.
