A group of workers for YouTube Music say they have lost their jobs. These workers checked the music for YouTube Music. They are not Google employees, but they work for a company called Cognizant that Google hires. Google says it was Cognizant’s decision, not theirs.
Last year, more than 40 workers stopped working for a while. They were asking Google to change how it was treating them. The workers said they didn’t earn enough money. They are paid only $19 per hour for remote work. The workers said that going to the office was too expensive for them.
Google had said that it doesn’t have to talk to the workers about their problems. This is because they are not Google employees. But a group called the National Labor Relations Board disagreed. The group says that Google is like a boss for these workers. Google did not agree and tried to appeal. But the decision remained the same.
The YouTube Music workers are not alone. Other workers are also asking Google to see them as employees.
