Last year, the movie “Anora” did very well at Cannes. People clapped and loved it. It won the Palme d’Or award. Neon, the studio behind it, got five Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director.
This year, the movie “Sentimental Value” by Joachim Trier is popular. It tells about an actress named Renate Reinsve. She has anxiety, and her dad, Stellan Skarsgård, wants to make a movie with her. When she says no, he hires American actress Elle Fanning instead. Both Renate and Stellan give amazing performances.
Joachim Trier has a good history with Oscar voters. His last movie, “The Worst Person in the World,” received two Oscar nominations. “Sentimental Value” is a touching film about family and art.
Neon also bought another movie called “It Was Just an Accident” by Jafar Panahi. He returned to Cannes after many years. Plus, they got a Brazilian film called “The Secret Agent” with actor Wagner Moura.
