Sony Showcases Impressive AI Tech with Horizon’s Aloy

Share

Sony is currently in the process of testing new AI software, with the iconic character Aloy from the Horizon series serving as the perfect showcase. A video shared on YouTube, featuring Sharwin Raghoebardajal, a software engineering director at Sony Interactive Entertainment specializing in gaming tech, AI, and face technology for the Advanced Technology Group within Sony’s PlayStation Studios, offers viewers a glimpse of an AI interpretation of Aloy from Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West.

Throughout the video, Raghoebardajal engages in verbal exchanges with Aloy, starting with a casual greeting. The AI version of Aloy responds with a flat tone, mentioning a sore throat, which adds a touch of realism to the interaction. As the conversation progresses, Aloy touches upon key events from the Horizon franchise, such as her discovery of being a clone of Dr. Elizabeth Sobeck.

The seamless integration of AI technology into Aloy’s character is evident in her facial animations, verbal responses, and voice. Interestingly, the voice used for AI-Aloy differs from the original voice actress, Ashly Burch, who portrayed the character in the games. Burch, known for advocating for voice actors in video games, has not publicly commented on this AI demonstration.

The video, showcasing the AI capabilities with Aloy, was unfortunately removed from YouTube due to a copyright strike filed by Muso, a company focusing on content protection. Despite its removal, The Verge was able to capture a gif of the demonstration in action, offering a glimpse into the potential of AI integration in gaming.

In conclusion, this demonstration serves as a peek into the future of AI in gaming, as Raghoebardajal acknowledged the possibilities it presents. The use of AI technology to bring characters to life in a realistic and engaging manner is a promising development that could shape the future of interactive entertainment.
