Tesla has begun releasing a software update for its Mobile Connector charging units, a surprising move for the company known primarily for its vehicle updates. The news emerged when a member of the Tesla community shared a screenshot on the platform X, showing an installation alert on their vehicle’s screen.
The update appears to target Gen 2 Mobile Connector units. Unlike Tesla’s vehicles, which have built-in Wi-Fi or cellular connections, the Mobile Connector relies on the vehicle to download the software. When the vehicle is plugged in, it retrieves the update and transfers it to the charging unit.
Interestingly, the update process is seamless. Users do not need to reboot their vehicles or manually initiate installation; an alert simply notifies them that the update is underway.
The Mobile Connector is a key accessory for Tesla owners, providing flexible charging options. It can plug into standard 120-volt household outlets, which adds about 3 to 4 miles of range per hour, or into 240-volt outlets like NEMA 14-50, allowing for approximately 30 miles of range per hour.
While updates for the Mobile Connector are rare due to its straightforward design, they do occasionally happen.
