Paramount Pictures
More than three decades have elapsed since Sharon Stone and Billy Baldwin graced the silver screen together in the motion picture Sliver. Recently, there has been a poignant resurgence of not-so-fond reminiscences about their collaborative period during the film’s production.
Stone, in her guest appearance on The Louis Theroux Podcast, voiced a disconcerting revelation. She accused deceased Paramount Pictures executive Robert Evans, of exerting pressure on her to engage in sexual acts with Baldwin, with the objective of enhancing his performance on screen.
Stone had previously alluded to this distasteful episode in her 2021 memoir, refraining from naming the individuals involved. Recently, however, she broached the subject pertaining to her distressful time on the set of Sliver during her dialogue with Theroux.
Depicting the uncomfortable encounter, Stone recounted, “[Evans was] running around his office in sunglasses pronouncing that he had slept with Ava Gardner and therefore I, too, should sleep with Billy Baldwin. This, according to him, would consequently improve Billy’s performance.”
She noted how Evans believed that, “the real problem lay with me being overly reserved, unlike a ‘real’ actress who could engage in sexual activities freely thus keeping everything in balance. In his opinion, it was my inhibitions that were the core of the issue”.
Arguing against such allegations, Stone highlighted that she faced no such issues working with her co-star Michael Douglas during the filming of Basic Instinct, which was released a year prior to Sliver.
Stone states, “Working with Michael didn’t require me to transgress professional boundaries. Michael abided by acting principles, adhered to his cues and rehearsed thoroughly, which is generally what an actor is supposed to do. Suddenly, I found myself positioned in a rather unsavory milieu, where I was expected to sleep with my co-stars for the sake of the film.”
The allegations led Baldwin to respond on the popular social media platform, Twitter (now referred to as X), where he recounted his own recollections of working with Stone and referenced the episode where he had requested Evans to choreograph a sex scene to avoid kissing Stone.
“Not sure why Sharon Stone keeps discussing me all these years later?” asks Baldwin. “Is she still harboring feelings for me or is she simply bitter because I rejected her advances?”
He continued, “I possess anecdotes about her which would turn her world upside down but I have maintained my silence. The incident with Bob Evans, orchestrating the final sex scene specifically to avoid kissing Sharon, has become a legend of sorts. Should I pen down a book and narrate the many startling, disturbing and unprofessional tales about Sharon? That might indeed be enlightening and amusing as well.”
