Cate Blanchett spoke with the BBC about her worries about artificial intelligence (AI). She said she is “deeply concerned” about what AI can do. On Sunday, she told Laura Kuenssberg that she is unsure about robots and driverless cars. She does not know how they help people.
Blanchett is 55 years old and is promoting her new movie, Rumours. This movie is a funny story about world leaders stuck in a forest. She said the movie seems small compared to the real problems in the world.
When asked if AI worries her job as an actress, she said she is more worried about its effect on regular people. She said AI can replace anyone’s job very easily. She explained that even if you record your voice for a few seconds, it can be copied.
In Rumours, Blanchett plays a leader of Germany who invites other leaders to a meeting. She said the characters are not based on real people. The director, Guy Maddin, added that he does not want to reveal their real thoughts, so the audience can think for themselves.
