Richard Pulley, a 78-year-old from Nashville, has gained significant attention online for delivering food to support his household. Following his wife Brenda’s job loss, the couple began working for DoorDash, with Brenda driving the car while Richard delivered orders to customers’ doorsteps.
A TikTok video captured one of Richard’s deliveries, which led to widespread sympathy and support. Brittany Smith, who shared the video, has since launched a GoFundMe campaign to help the couple secure their financial future and retire comfortably.
In an impressive start, the campaign raised $300,000 within the first 24 hours and has now surpassed $500,000, with donations pouring in from around the globe. Smith set an overall target of $650,000, which initially shocked Brenda, who expressed disbelief at the generosity displayed by strangers. The funds will help cover their medical bills and is providing much-needed relief.
Richard expressed gratitude for the donations, stating that they have alleviated much of the stress they have faced and improved their quality of life. Their situation resonates with a broader trend, as many older adults struggle to leave the workforce.
In December, a similar campaign raised nearly $2 million for Ed Bambas from Detroit, highlighting ongoing public support for elderly individuals seeking to retire. Both cases illustrate how community kindness can significantly impact the lives of those in need.
