David Lee Roth surprised fans at the Coachella festival by joining singer Teddy Swims to perform Van Halen’s classic hit “Jump.” The performance took place on the main stage at 5:30 PM local time and was part of a set where Swims invited various special guests to join him.
Swims, who gained popularity with his recent song “Lose Control,” used a doorbell sound effect to introduce his surprise performers. Joe Jonas was the first to appear, singing “When You Look Me in the Eyes” with Swims, followed by pop star Vanessa Carlton, who performed her well-known track “A Thousand Miles.” However, the highlight came when Roth appeared during Swims’ second-to-last song.
As Roth took the stage, a thrilled Swims exclaimed, “Oh my God! It’s David Lee Roth from the best f—king band of all time, Van Halen!” Despite the age gap—many in the audience were not born when the song was released in 1984—the crowd erupted in cheers as Roth showcased his energetic performance style, wearing a sparkling leather vest and fitted pants.
Roth actively engaged with the audience, twirling a microphone stand during the song’s famous guitar solo. Swims appeared equally delighted, grinning broadly as he shared the stage with the rock legend. Video footage of the performance has gained popularity online.
Roth, who had previously announced his retirement from touring, plans to return to the stage this year. He is set to begin a major U.S. tour on April 16 in Airway Heights, Washington.
