Paramount’s latest installment in the “A Quiet Place” franchise, “A Quiet Place: Day One,” broke records with a preview night earning between $5M-$6M. The film follows the origins of the aliens with sensitive ears landing on Earth in NYC and stars Lupita Nyong’o among others. With positive reviews and a B+ CinemaScore, the movie is expected to have a strong opening weekend, with projections of $40M+.
Meanwhile, Kevin Costner’s new film, “Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1,” had a slower start with earnings of $800,000 on its preview night. The three-hour western epic is targeting a total opening of $12M, catering to an older-skewing audience. Critical reviews are mixed, standing at 41% on Rotten Tomatoes, but the slow burn strategy may work well for this type of film.
Over at Disney/Pixar, “Inside Out 2” continues to dominate the box office, crossing the $400M mark in just 13 days. The sequel is projected to bring in $55M-$60M over the weekend
