Eric Dane, known for his role in Grey’s Anatomy, has passed away at the age of 53 following a struggle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). His death on February 19 has prompted friends to initiate a GoFundMe campaign to financially support his daughters.
The fundraising page currently has garnered over $80,000 towards its $250,000 target. According to the campaign description, Dane’s wife, Rebecca, and their two teenage daughters, Billie and Georgia, were the “centre of his world.”
Dane became a fervent advocate for the ALS community after his diagnosis, using his platform to raise awareness for others facing similar challenges. Even as his health deteriorated, he remained committed to assisting those affected by the disease. The GoFundMe aims to ensure stability for his daughters during this particularly difficult period, emphasising that all contributions, regardless of size, are vital.
News of Dane’s death came ten months after he publicly revealed his ALS diagnosis, often discussing the difficulties of living with the condition during interviews and on social media. He consistently championed the need for increased awareness and research related to ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.
The day following his death, Netflix released an interview featuring Dane for its Famous Last Words series, which had been recorded in November 2025 with a stipulation for posthumous airing. In this poignant video, Dane delivers a heartfelt message to his daughters, urging them to fight with integrity through adversity. He states, “Never give up. Fight until your last breath. This disease is slowly taking my body, but it will never take my spirit.”
