Harvey Weinstein Excluded from Vanity Fair Oscars Party

While Harvey Weinstein may no longer grace the red carpet, a notable event predated his notorious downfall, effectively removing him from the invite list altogether.

In his newest publication, When the Going Was Good, former Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter disclosed that the disgraced producer and convicted sex offender was banned for life from the magazine’s highly esteemed Oscars party.

Carter recounted in the book, releasing Tuesday, that Weinstein frequently arrived with more guests than permitted by his invitation and often bullied the staff, as noted by Page Six.

“He ultimately faced a lifetime ban due to his rude behavior towards the staff, which I found unacceptable,” Carter explained, revealing that although the initial ban was temporarily lifted, it was soon reinstated. “This was not a result of excessive drinking; it simply stemmed from his character.”

As editor-in-chief from 1992 to 2017, Carter began the star-studded tradition in 1994 after the passing of agent Swifty Lazar, known for his extravagant Oscars parties. The guest list was so coveted that Carrter recalled editor Sara Marks facing bribery, threats, and even abuse while managing it.

Since 2017, over 80 women have come forward with allegations of harassment, assault, or rape against Weinstein. In 2020, he was convicted of first-degree criminal sexual assault and third-degree rape, receiving a 23-year prison sentence. In 2022, he faced further charges in Los Angeles, resulting in an additional 16 years.

Although his New York convictions were overturned due to “egregious errors” made by the judge, Weinstein remains in custody at Rikers Island, awaiting a retrial set for April 15.
