A group linked to Iran says it attacked Stryker, a medical technology company in Michigan, USA. The attack erased data from many of Stryker’s computers. This caused the company to close its offices in 79 countries. In Ireland, where Stryker has many workers, over 5,000 people went home today.
The group, called Handala, made this claim in a message on Telegram. They say they wiped data from over 200,000 devices. Stryker’s main office sent a message saying they have a building emergency.
Handala said this attack was a response to a missile strike in Iran that killed at least 175 people, many of them children. The New York Times says the United States is to blame for this strike.
Stryker has about 56,000 workers in 61 countries. Employees in Ireland are now using WhatsApp for work updates. Some devices were wiped clean, and the login screens showed Handala’s logo. This attack shows a new way of hacking computers using Microsoft’s service called Intune. This story is still developing, and more details will come.
