The sensational South Korean K-pop ensemble, TWICE, has been making considerable strides ever since its advent in the limelight back in 2015. Bolstered by nine inimitable members, the group’s unity is a testament to their uncanny bonding and camaraderie. Notwithstanding the global pandemic, we connected in Korea as they were preparing for the grand release of their extended play, the delightful “Taste of Love”.
TWICE’s meteoric rise from being novel entertainers to pivotal figures in the Eastern hemisphere has been witnessed by thousands of ardent followers. Their musical dexterity is underscored by a gamut of mellifluous masterpieces that cater to diverse genres, including bubblegum pop, R&B, and the invigorating house genre. Their elan for constant evolution from touring unceasingly to recording chartbusters in different languages emphasizes TWICE’s consistent impact on the global stage.
TWICE’s whimsical journey could be traced back to the nail-biting reality show, Sixteen, that culminated in the final lineup, a decade ago. Incidentally, their latest album, “With YOU-th,” addresses their indomitable spirit and the reliable camaraderie they extend to each other in their musical pursuit. A salient feature is the pivotal role the members assume as lyricists and producers, thus enriching their repertoire and asserting their collective talent.
Our virtual rendezvous earlier this year allowed me to heartily exchange pleasantries with the members, days before the release of their maiden English-track “I GOT YOU”, and prior to their departure for their ongoing fifth world tour.
In conversation, Nayeon, the eldest band member, fondly reminiscing her tour experience, cherishes the joy and exhilaration of bonding with a plethora of fans in various cities across the globe. Momo’s euphoria was palpable as she recalled fans’ encouraging responses to the band members’ solo performances during the concert series.
Social media’s influence is not lost on these internet-savvy songbirds, particularly, Jihyo, who is rather fond of short-form video platforms and casually scrolls through them to catch up on trends.
Apart from their music, TWICE members shared their ambitious aspirations for 2024, with Nayeon expressing her desire to become an accomplished driver, Jeongyeon looking forward to acquiring a license for heavy vehicles, and Tzuyu’s keeness to sharpen her fluency in English.
Indeed, the impressively talented girls from TWICE have managed to create a distinctive niche in the global music circuit, consolidating K-pop’s relevance beyond the confines of native boundaries. Steadfast in their commitment to offering a rejuvenating musical experience, they’ve thus borne the torch as promising flag bearers of the genre.
