In the recent episode of “Saturday Night Live,” the cast tackled one of the top news stories of the past week by portraying concerned parents of New York City college students involved in protests. Hosted by Dua Lipa, the episode featured Michael Longfellow as a talk show host who welcomed parents played by Heidi Gardner, Mikey Day, and Kenan Thompson.

Longfellow expressed concerns about the worrisome situation on university campuses nationwide and sought comments from his guests. While Gardner and Day’s characters voiced worries about their children participating in protests against Israel’s conflict with Hamas, Thompson stood in support of the students’ efforts.

However, when asked about his own daughter, a Columbia student, getting involved in the protests, Thompson vehemently denied any knowledge of it, insisting she should be in class instead of protesting. Despite supporting student activism, Thompson made it clear that his children should not be involved in such actions.

The episode highlighted the ongoing tensions at Columbia University, where dozens of protesters barricaded themselves inside Hamilton Hall, leading to arrests. A significant number of those arrested were not affiliated with the university or college.

The comical skit on SNL mirrored real-life events, showcasing the complexities of parent-child dynamics amidst social and political activism. The episode served as a satirical commentary on the current state of university protests and the challenges faced by students and their families in navigating these turbulent times.
