Oracle executives have addressed concerns that artificial intelligence (AI) could threaten software-as-a-service (SaaS) companies. During a recent earnings call, Oracle Chairman Larry Ellison said he believes that the so-called “Saaspocalypse” will impact other firms but not Oracle itself.
Ellison explained that Oracle is developing advanced software tools that automate entire systems, such as healthcare and financial services. He asserted that this innovation positions Oracle as a disruptive force in the industry. The discussion arose amid rising fears that AI might replace traditional software solutions. Recently, Anthropic, a leading AI company, introduced new tools, causing a dip in software stocks like Salesforce and Asana.
Oracle’s CEO, Mike Sicilia, joined Ellison in dismissing the “Saaspocalypse” concept. He mentioned that while AI tools present opportunities, they could be a threat if not embraced quickly. Sicilia emphasized that Oracle is already integrating AI into its existing products and creating new SaaS products with these technologies.
Furthermore, he noted that clients are not ready to abandon their essential software systems for simple AI alternatives. Other tech leaders, including Salesforce’s Marc Benioff, have echoed this sentiment, assuring investors that the integration of AI will enhance their services rather than replace them.
As the landscape evolves, Oracle and its competitors will likely continue to adapt, utilising AI advancements while addressing market concerns.
