Mac Sinise, 33, Son of ‘Forrest Gump’ Star Gary Sinise, Dies from Rare Cancer

Culture reporter, Noor Nanji, reported on February 28th, 2024, that Mac Sinise, the 33-year-old son of Forrest Gump actor Gary Sinise, has passed away. He was suffering from a very rare form of cancer.

Gary Sinise shared the news on his foundation’s website. He said Mac died on January 5th. The announcement came more than five years after Mac’s diagnosis. The actor expressed how heartbroken the family is. He said they are trying to cope with the loss as best as they can.

Mac, whose full name was McCanna Anthony Sinise, was a music graduate and an exceptional drummer, according to his father. He was diagnosed with Chordoma in August 2018, two months after his mother, Moira, was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer. Thankfully, she had recovered and remained cancer-free after treatment.

However, Mac’s cancer spread and affected him more and more. Gary Sinise expressed the pain of losing a child and extended sympathy to all those in a similar situation. He mentioned their challenging five and a half year-long fight with cancer.

Gary Sinise, who played Lieutenant Dan Taylor in the film Forrest Gump, expressed his family’s sorrow at missing Mac. But, they feel comforted that he is no longer suffering. The actor praised his son for the courage he showed in his fight against incurable cancer.

Gary Sinise said that Chordoma is an extremely rare cancer that affects about 300 people in the US each year. He paid tribute to his son’s inspirational strength, noting that Mac never stopped loving, learning, or creating, despite his illness.
