Phil Campbell, the former guitarist of Motörhead, has passed away at the age of 64. His death was confirmed by his band, Phil Campbell And The Bastard Sons, which includes his sons Todd, Dane, and Tyla Campbell.
In their statement, the family expressed deep sadness, stating, “Philip Anthony Campbell passed away peacefully last night following a long and courageous battle in intensive care after a complex major operation.” They asked for privacy during this difficult time, highlighting his roles as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
Motörhead’s official Facebook page also shared a tribute. They stated that Campbell had been with the band for 31 years, marking him as the longest-serving member aside from the late frontman Lemmy. After Lemmy’s death in 2015, Campbell formed Phil Campbell And The Bastard Sons, which produced several albums, the latest being “Kings Of The Abyss” released in 2023.
Campbell was widely respected as a guitarist, songwriter, and performer, with a unique talent for creating memorable music. He was known for his love of life and his humorous personality. Fellow bandmates and friends, like drummer Mikkey Dee, paid tribute by recalling Campbell’s talents and the bond they shared during their years in the band.
Following his passing, Phil Campbell And The Bastard Sons announced the cancellation of an upcoming tour of Australia, citing medical advice regarding Campbell’s health. The family and band request understanding from fans as they cope with this loss.
