Nissan is recalling 642,986 Rogue SUVs because of potential problems with the engine. The recalls affect models from 2023 to 2025, including some already fixed in a previous recall.
One issue involves the vehicle’s electronic throttle chamber (ETC) assembly. In some models, faulty engine control module (ECM) software could weaken a gear in the ETC during a routine diagnostic test. This could lead to a loss of power, making it hard for drivers to change gears when restarting the vehicle.
The second recall is due to further discoveries about engine bearing failures. Last year, Nissan recalled the Rogue but found that high engine oil temperatures also contribute to these failures. When oil gets too hot, it can lose its ability to lubricate properly. This may cause engine bearings to seize, leading to engine damage or failure.
Nissan plans to fix this by reprogramming the ECM in affected vehicles and checking the engine oil pan for metal debris. Dealers have been informed and Nissan will start sending notices to owners next month.
