OpenAI is helping to build a large data center in Abu Dhabi. This center will be very big, around 10 square miles, and will need a lot of power, more than five nuclear reactors. It may become one of the biggest AI projects in the world, according to a new Bloomberg report.
The project will be a joint effort with G42, a tech company in Abu Dhabi. This is part of a larger plan called Stargate. OpenAI plans to build big data centers in different countries to support AI technology.
The first Stargate center is being built in Abilene, Texas, and it will be smaller than the one in Abu Dhabi.
OpenAI has worked with the UAE since a 2023 partnership with G42. OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman, praised the UAE for its early interest in AI.
However, some people in the U.S. are worried about G42’s connections with China. There are concerns that this could lead to sharing important technology. G42 has promised to change its focus and reduce its ties with China.
Recently, Microsoft invested $1.5 billion in G42 and became more involved with the company.
