Oprah Winfrey stepped down from WeightWatchers board to have unrestricted discussions in her upcoming special.

After nearly ten years on the board, TV personality Oprah Winfrey resigned from WeightWatchers (WW) to prevent a perceived conflict of interest. Winfrey is preparing for her upcoming special, “An Oprah Special: Shame, Blame and the Weight Loss Revolution,” where she intends to discuss obesity and weight challenges openly. As WeightWatchers now also administers weight-loss medications, she chose to exit the board to maintain impartiality during her show. Upon her departure, she donated all of her WW shares to the National Museum of African American History. Winfrey has struggled with her weight over the years and chose medication as a weight management strategy post a demanding knee surgery last year. Despite some criticism, she remains uninhibited in sharing her journey and endorsed using medication to manage obesity while emphasizing that it is a medical condition, not a shortcoming of willpower.
