Peter Alexander to Leave NBC News

Peter Alexander, a prominent correspondent for NBC News, has announced his departure from the network during a Saturday morning telecast of “Today.” His exit marks the end of a significant chapter in his journalism career, where he has covered vital political events as chief White House correspondent.

For the past 15 years, Alexander has balanced the demanding roles of co-anchoring the Saturday edition of “Today” and reporting from the White House. This often required him to travel between Washington, D.C., and New York City. He has expressed a wish to spend more time with his young children, after missing many Friday evenings due to work commitments.

Colleagues, including Chloe Arensberg, the Washington Bureau Chief, acknowledged his contributions, calling him a valued colleague within NBC News. They extended their best wishes for his future endeavours. While Alexander has not disclosed his next career move, there is an open anchor position at MS NOW, a network recently restructured and seeking new hosts.

Throughout his career, Alexander has gained recognition for his candid questions to former President Trump, occasionally leading to confrontational responses. He remarked in 2022 that navigating different administrations felt overwhelming, especially during the intense news cycles of Trump’s presidency.

Having joined NBC News in 2004, Alexander took on various assignments globally before becoming a White House correspondent. He has seen significant changes in the media landscape, with many of his peers also seeking new opportunities amid major reshuffles in other networks.

In the interim, NBC News plans to assign various staff members to cover Alexander’s responsibilities.
