In a recent development, Prince Harry has been named in a defamationlawsuit in the UK. This lawsuit involves Sentebale, a charity he co-founded 20 years ago aimed at addressing HIV/AIDS in Lesotho and Botswana.
Prince Harry left Sentebale in March 2025 amid disagreements with Dr Sophie Chandauka, the charity’s board chair. Following his exit, Chandauka initiated legal action against Sentebale’s trustees to prevent her dismissal. This situation revealed allegations of poor governance and abuse within the charity.
Sentebale announced on March 23 that it had filed legal action against Prince Harry and former trustee Mark Dyer in London’s High Court. The charity stated the lawsuit seeks court intervention due to a damaging media campaign. This campaign has reportedly harmed Sentebale’s reputation and disrupted its operations since March 25, 2025.
In its statement, Sentebale accused Prince Harry and Dyer of being behind this negative media coverage, which has also led to online bullying directed at the charity’s leadership.
In response, a spokesperson for Prince Harry challenged these claims, insisting that they are offensive. They expressed concern that charitable resources are being used for legal action instead of helping the communities the charity serves. Sentebale emphasised its commitment to its mission of supporting children and young people in Southern Africa despite the legal challenges.
