Rare gold LEGO piece discovered at Pennsylvania Goodwill to be auctioned

Share

A rare 14-karat gold LEGO piece was found at a Goodwill Warehouse in Pennsylvania and is now up for auction. The piece, called the Bionicle Golden Kanohi Hau Mask, is believed to be one of only 30 in existence. It was found by workers at the warehouse in DuBois. The piece was originally gifted to LEGO employees and awarded through a contest.

Goodwill Vice President of E-commerce and Technology, Chad Smith, stated that there are also silver and platinum versions of the piece. When Goodwill workers first discovered the piece, they were unaware of its significance. It was found in a box of random jewelry donations. Once they realized its value, they decided to maximize the donation through an online auction on shopgoodwill.com.

The current bid for the gold LEGO piece is over $4,000. The highest amount it previously sold for was $5,000, and a bid of $33,000 was received before the winner failed to pay up, resulting in the item being relisted. Goodwill hopes to find the right collector to take the piece.

The discovery of this rare 14-karat gold LEGO piece has sparked interest and bids continue to stack up as the auction progresses. It’s a unique find, and its rarity makes it a sought-after item for LEGO collectors.
