A rare 14-karat gold LEGO piece was discovered at a Goodwill Warehouse in DuBois, Pennsylvania, and is now up for auction. The Bionicle Golden Kanohi Hau Mask is believed to be one of only 30 in existence, with some being gifted to LEGO employees and the rest awarded through a contest in 2001. Goodwill workers found the piece in a box of random jewelry from the State College store and were initially unaware of its significance. The Goodwill Vice President of E-commerce and Technology, Chad Smith, stated that there are also silver and platinum versions of the piece. The item is being auctioned on the shopgoodwill.com website, with the current highest bid at $4,000. The initial winning bid of $33,000 fell through when the bidder failed to pay, so the item was relisted. Goodwill hopes to maximize the donation through the online auction, and if it reaches $5,000, it will be the highest amount the piece has sold for. The item’s auction has garnered attention for its rarity and appeal to collectors. Goodwill’s Social Media & PR Coordinator, Jessica Illuzzi, expressed excitement at the prospect of finding the right collector to take the piece. For collectors and LEGO enthusiasts, the opportunity to bid on the 14-karat gold LEGO piece is a unique and exciting find.
