A very rich man from India, Mukesh Ambani, and Walt Disney are joining their TV and online media businesses in India. This will create a very powerful company worth $8.5 billion. The new company will have 120 TV channels and two online media platforms. It will be bigger than other companies like Sony from Japan, Netflix, and Zee Entertainment from India.
Ambani’s company, Reliance, and Disney will serve over 750 million people in India. They will also serve Indians living in other parts of the world. The TV company Viacom18, which is mostly owned by Reliance, has 40 TV channels. Disney Star, very popular in India, has about 80 channels.
Both Reliance and Disney show sports, children’s programs, documentaries, and shows in many Indian languages. They also have rights to air cricket matches in India. On the internet, Reliance’s JioCinema and Disney’s Hotstar have a lot of content like TV dramas, movies, and sports. Disney’s content includes big hit movies and documentaries.
