Ryan Gosling started his monologue on Saturday Night Live, but the cameras quickly focused on Harry Styles instead. Gosling, 45, seemed surprised and asked, “What are you doing here, man?” Styles explained that he wanted to watch the show before he returned next week to host and perform music.
Despite Gosling’s efforts to continue, the cameras kept returning to Styles, causing some frustration. “Why are we on Harry Styles?” Gosling protested, calling Styles “coolness” a problem during his segment. To take back control, Gosling attempted to perform a song from his upcoming film, Project Hail Mary. He mentioned that there is a karaoke song in the movie, saying, “It’s very poignant.”
The song he planned to sing was called Sign of the Times, a popular song by Harry Styles. Gosling was nervous to perform it in front of Styles, saying, “Now I’ve got to sing it in front of him?” He jokingly told the audience, “Nobody wants this” as he sang.
The comedy heightened when the broadcast suddenly showed both Gosling and Styles on screen. Gosling asked who was responsible for this change, only to see a cameraman wearing an “I heart Harry Styles” sweater. Styles will be back next week on SNL as both host and musical guest, having already taken the spotlight during Gosling’s segment.
