Shots Reveals That Performing Strength Training Enhances Metabolism, Increases Lifespan, and Improves Mood by Building Muscle.

Regular strength training routine is beneficial for all, but for women, it brings tremendous positive effects on their longevity, according to a recent study. The research, examined on approximately 400,000 subjects, found that women who practiced strength training exercises regularly lived a considerably longer life as compared to women who did not. The data showed that women who engaged in muscle-strengthening training saw a decrease in their cardiovascular mortality rate by about 30%.

Martha Gulati, a preventive cardiologist and the author of this study, expressed that this remarkable finding shows the powerful impact strength training can have on longevity and reduced mortality rates. It also acts as a positive catalyst to boost bone health, joint flexibility, spirit, and metabolic wellness. Hence, both aerobic exercises and strength-training routines should form an essential part of women’s health regimen.

On examining the variations between the impacts of exercises on men and women, it was found that women gain significantly more from lesser exercise than men. For instance, moderate-intensity activities like brisk walking, when undertaken five times a week, reduced females’ risk of premature mortality by 24%, compared to 18% in males.

While there are noteworthy physiological differences between males and females, the study proposes that it’s these contrasts in ethnic characteristics and risks of heart diseases that might be leading to varying responses to workouts amongst the two. Women can improve their baseline figures of strength and aerobic capacity with even lesser exertions due to their relatively higher muscle structures and capillaries feeding their cells, says Eric Shiroma, a researcher at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute who also provided support for this research.

Typically, gyms and various health studios now integrate weightlifting essentials to maximize the health benefits delivered to their female members. However, the fear of heavy weightlifting that used to dominate women’s exercise preferences in the past still needs to be addressed, with about 80% of women in the study reporting that they don’t participate in regular strength training.
