US President Donald Trump has given TikTok a second extension of 75 days. This gives TikTok more time to sell its US operations or face a ban. Trump wrote on Truth Social that he wants TikTok to stay active. TikTok is owned by a Chinese company called ByteDance.
The first extension was given in January, and it was set to end soon. TikTok says it has more than 170 million users in the US. A law from Congress says ByteDance must sell TikTok or the app will be blocked.
On Friday, ByteDance said they are talking with the Trump administration but have not made a deal yet. They also said they need to resolve some important issues.
Biden’s administration thinks TikTok might allow China to spy on Americans. It also said a TikTok deal is near but fell apart due to new tariffs Trump announced on China.
Now, many companies want to buy TikTok, including Amazon and Microsoft. Trump’s team is looking for a buyer. They might connect the TikTok deal to the tariffs on Chinese goods.
