Bhopal’s Bhagwan Singh and Mahesh Khurana have finished a very tough marathon. This marathon took place on top of a frozen lake in Leh-Ladakh. It was named the ‘World’s Highest Frozen Lake Marathon’ and held on Feb 20. There was lots of heavy snowfall. The runners were very high up and it was very cold. Bhagwan Singh works for the sports department. He says that all the runners needed to take health tests every day. The marathon was supposed to be 42 km, but because of bad weather, it was cut down to 21 km. Bhagwan Singh is also a mountain climber. He was the first person from Madhya Pradesh to climb the highest mountain in the world – Mount Everest. The marathon was put together by the Adventure Sports Foundation of Ladakh. They had help from the Ladakh Administration Union Territory and the Indian Army. Many runners from seven different countries took part in two races – one was 21 km, and one was 10 km.
