Ryan Gosling’s monologue on Saturday Night Live was interrupted when the cameras shifted focus to Harry Styles, who was unexpectedly in the audience. Gosling, 45, appeared surprised and asked Styles what he was doing there. Styles replied he wanted to observe the show, as he is set to host and perform next week.
Despite Gosling’s attempts to continue his monologue, the cameras kept returning to Styles. He jokingly protested, saying, “Why are we on Harry Styles?” and added that Styles’s popularity was becoming a distraction. In an effort to regain the spotlight, Gosling introduced a musical number from his upcoming film, Project Hail Mary, explaining that it features a karaoke scene.
He shared that a poignant song called "Sign of the Times," by Styles, would be featured in the movie. Reluctantly, Gosling began to sing the song while Styles watched from the audience, creating an awkward moment that amused viewers. Gosling humorously acknowledged the situation, saying, “Nobody wants this.”
The comedic interruptions continued when the broadcast displayed a split screen with Gosling and Styles, prompting Gosling to express frustration about the production choices. He was further surprised to see a cameraman wearing an “I heart Harry Styles” sweater.
Gosling was hosting SNL for the fourth time, having previously appeared in 2015, 2017, and 2024. Styles will return next week to host and perform, making it clear that he already overshadowed Gosling’s appearance.
