The Trump Mobile T1, widely known as the Trump phone, has finally launched nearly a year after its announcement, although its design has changed significantly since the initial unveiling.
This new smartphone was introduced to customers this week, following a preorder made by CNET last June with a $100 deposit. Unlike many phone companies that typically provide review units to journalists, Trump Mobile expedited the shipment to facilitate an early review. It remains unclear whether other preorder customers, who are not media members, have received their devices.
Trump Mobile began operations in June 2025, offering a monthly phone plan priced at $47.45, and originally aimed to manufacture the T1 in the US with a launch scheduled for August 2025. However, the company encountered challenges with large-scale domestic smartphone production, leading to the removal of the “made in the US” label and a delay in the phone’s release.
Recently, Trump Mobile revealed a redesigned version of the T1 on its website, marking the third design iteration. This update followed a demonstration in February, where executives showcased a near-final version of the T1. The company cited production issues as the primary reason for the delays, which were confirmed last week when it announced the start of shipping to customers.
Pat O’Brien, CEO of Trump Mobile, stated that the technology sector presents many challenges, particularly in ensuring that parts meet quality standards. Testing and refinement have delayed the T1’s completion, but the company believes the wait was justified to deliver a high-quality product. This weekend, a real-world test of the phone will take place, with updates to be shared during the Memorial Day weekend.
