Mario Kart World has been available for over a year and features new game modes, character costumes, and a large, connected map. However, some players may not realise their racing habits could affect their performance.
If you’re new to Mario Kart or want to improve your skills, it’s important to recognise some common mistakes that might be holding you back.
Firstly, turn off Smart Steering. This feature prevents you from going off track, which can be helpful for beginners. However, it limits your ability to take shortcuts and achieve higher drift boosts.
Additionally, don’t ignore smaller speed boosts. In addition to the larger boosts from power-ups, small boosts can come from techniques like drifting and slipstreaming. Slipstreaming involves following closely behind an opponent to gain speed.
Coins are crucial too; they increase your maximum speed. Aim to collect and keep 20 coins during a race, as each coin boosts your speed. You can lose coins when you get hit, so keep an eye out for fallen coins from non-player cars.
Finally, be strategic about using items. Holding onto items like Mushrooms can help you when you need extra speed. It can be beneficial to practice in the Free Roam mode, where you can explore and improve without the pressure of a race.
