Amazon and Google Lead AI Investment Race: What’s at Stake?

Amazon announced it will spend $200 billion on new projects like AI, robotics, and satellites by 2026. This is a big increase from $131.8 billion in 2025. Many believe that having more data centres will help companies create better AI products, but Amazon also has many other costs, so not all the money is just for AI.

Google is also spending a lot. It plans to invest between $175 billion and $185 billion in 2026, up from $91.4 billion last year. This is much more than what many other companies are spending.

Meta expects to spend around $115 billion to $135 billion in 2026. In contrast, Oracle plans to spend only $50 billion. Microsoft has not given a clear number for 2026, but it recently spent $37.5 billion, which may lead to about $150 billion if it stays on track.

Despite the high spending, many investors seem worried. Stocks for these companies fell as investors reacted negatively to the large amounts of money being invested. This concern affects all tech companies, including those like Microsoft and Amazon that have strong plans for AI.

Overall, big tech firms may feel pressure to show that they are managing these costs carefully, even if they believe in the potential of AI.
