Beloved Shore Park Shuts Down: End of Family Fun Era

Share

In Ocean City, NJ, the iconic amusement park, Wonderland, has closed after nearly 100 years in operation. Mayor Jay Gillian’s family has run the park for generations, but financial challenges caused its closure. The park, known for its Giant Wheel and family-friendly attractions, was a beloved destination for many visitors.

Sheryl Gross, who has visited the park for decades with her family, shared fond memories of the rides and excitement. Despite efforts to save Wonderland, it was unable to recover from financial difficulties exacerbated by events like Superstorm Sandy and the COVID-19 pandemic.

A local group is raising funds to potentially save the park, but the future remains uncertain. The current owner, Icona Resorts, had plans for a luxury hotel on the property, but alternatives are being considered.

The closure of Wonderland has left many in the community saddened, as the park held cherished memories and played a significant role in Ocean City’s appeal as a family-friendly destination.
