CNN reported that musician and producer Sean “Diddy” Combs is facing serious charges including racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking, and transportation for prostitution. His trial is scheduled for May 5, 2025. Combs, who has pleaded not guilty, appeared in court with his family members. He was seen wearing a jail-issued outfit and his ankles were shackled.
The prosecution estimates the trial could last three weeks, but it may change due to potential new charges or defendants. Combs’ defense case is expected to take about a week. Judge Arun Subramanian issued an order to prevent the release of secret grand jury evidence. Combs’ lawyers accused the government of leaking a video showing him mistreating his former girlfriend, which was denied by the US Attorney.
The video, released by CNN in 2016, shows Combs dragging and kicking his then-girlfriend Cassie Ventura. Initially denying the allegations, Combs later apologized after the video surfaced. His lawyers are seeking to exclude the footage from trial, which the prosecution views as crucial evidence.
Combs’ court appearance marked his third since arrest and his first in front of Judge Subramanian. He remains in federal custody at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center and is eager to go to trial swiftly after being denied bail twice. His next court appearance is scheduled for December 18.
