Director Roman Polanski acquitted of defamation charges by French court

Recently, a Paris court has declared filmmaker Roman Polanski not guilty of defaming Charlotte Lewis, a British actor who accused him of sexual assault when she was a teenager. In 2019, Polanski had claimed in an interview with Paris Match magazine that Lewis had fabricated the assault allegations against him. However, the court ruled in his favor, stating that there was not enough evidence to support Lewis’ claims.

The 56-year-old Lewis, who brought the case against the 90-year-old director, expressed her disappointment with the court’s decision and announced her intention to appeal. She described the ordeal as a “smear campaign” that had a detrimental impact on her life.

This case is not the first time Polanski has been accused of sexual misconduct. In 2010, Lewis accused him of assaulting her when she was 16 years old in Paris. Despite these allegations, Polanski continues to deny any wrongdoing and has not faced any consequences for his actions.

Throughout his career, Polanski has faced controversies and legal challenges, including fleeing the United States in 1978 after admitting to having sex with a minor. Despite these controversies, he has continued to work in the film industry, creating acclaimed movies like “Chinatown,” “The Pianist,” and “Rosemary’s Baby.”
