The 41st Film Independent Spirit Awards were held on Sunday afternoon at the Hollywood Palladium. This event highlights the best independent films and television shows of the year.
The film Train Dreams and Sorry, Baby emerged as top winners. Train Dreams received awards for Best Feature, Best Director, and Best Cinematography. Sorry, Baby won the awards for Best Screenplay and Best Supporting Performance. Additionally, Alex Russell’s Lurker took home awards for Best First Feature and Best First Screenplay. Netflix’s series Adolescence was the standout of the night, winning four awards.
Among the winners hoping for success at the Oscars are Rose Byrne, who won Best Performance for If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, and Adolpho Veloso, who was recognised for Best Cinematography for Train Dreams. The Perfect Neighbor won Best Documentary, while The Secret Agent from Brazil received the Best International Film award.
Reflecting on the previous year’s trends, Train Dreams appears to be a strong contender for the Oscars on March 15.
The ceremony, hosted by former SNL star Ego Nwodim, has evolved in recent years. Traditionally held the day before the Oscars, it has now moved to the middle of awards season. This year marked the first event at the Palladium, after years at the beach venue in Santa Monica.
