Justin Timberlake faced difficulties completing field sobriety tests after being stopped by police in the Hamptons, New York, in 2024. Officers suspected he was driving under the influence of alcohol. Video footage released on Friday shows Timberlake struggling with tasks such as walking a straight line and standing on one leg.
The incident began when Sag Harbor police observed Timberlake run a stop sign and drift out of his lane. After stopping him, officers noticed the smell of alcohol. Timberlake claimed he had only consumed one martini while following friends through the affluent area.
When asked about his visit, he mentioned he was on a “world tour,” but seemed hesitant to explain further. During the encounter, he appeared nervous, apologising to officers and stating that his heart was racing. At one point, a woman who was with him earlier arrived and expressed confusion over his arrest, asking if she could hand him his phone.
Officers later took Timberlake to the police station, where he was informed he would be held overnight. The footage was released after a public records request from various media outlets, despite Timberlake’s lawyers previously arguing it infringed upon his privacy and could harm his reputation.
Ultimately, Timberlake pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of impaired driving. He agreed to record a public safety announcement about the dangers of drunk driving as part of his plea deal. He was fined $500, assigned 25 hours of community service, and had his driving licence suspended for 90 days.
