The actress Mindy Kaling gave a talk at the DNC in Chicago. This show was live on the NPR Network.
Mindy Kaling is known for The Office and The Mindy Project. She teased Kamala Harris, the Vice President, at this talk. She and Kamala are both from Indian families.
Mindy and Kamala first met at a cooking show. Kamala was a senator from California at that time. They quickly became friends. They talked about their mothers who both came from India and loved helping others. Sadly, both of their mothers had died from cancer.
Mindy’s mother was a doctor for women having babies. Kamala’s mother was a scientist studying cancer. Mindy felt Kamala’s mother also loved to help others like her own mother did.
Mindy said that Kamala was a very good cook. She was better at making dosa, a type of Indian food, than Mindy herself.
Donald Trump, the former President, made rude comments about Kamala Harris. He mispronounced her name, which is from the Sanskrit language. Harris went to a university mostly for Black students. She often talks about being a Black and Indian woman.
There is a video of Mindy’s talk at DNC. You can watch it if you are interested.
