I went to Anthropic’s developer conference in San Francisco this week. The big news is that Anthropic will rent AI computing power from SpaceX, a large company run by Elon Musk. This deal will help improve the speed and performance of Claude, Anthropic’s AI chatbot.
Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei had previously criticized AI companies for making too many similar deals. Now, he is following the same strategy because the demand for AI is much higher than the supply. Recently, Anthropic faced problems with outages and slow performance, which upset many developers who use their services.
Amodei said at the conference, “We have had difficulties with computing power. We are sorry for the delays, but we are working to get more.” Following the SpaceX announcement, Anthropic reduced some limits on its services, especially for Claude Code, which is an AI tool for coding.
Many startups and tech companies expressed their need for more AI capacity at the conference. Anthropic plans to access the new SpaceX computing resources within the month, which could help meet this growing demand. If Anthropic continues to grow like this, it may become one of the highest-revenue companies in the world.
