The incident unfolded on Tuesday when officers from the California Highway Patrol, in conjunction with the Los Angeles Police Department, responded to a reported hit-and-run.
Jillian Lauren, wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner and identified in a police communiqué as Jillian Shriner, was critically injured after being shot by police during the aforementioned incident, leading to her subsequent booking on charges of attempted murder.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department’s press release, the events transpired in the early afternoon when the California Highway Patrol requested additional support to apprehend three suspects involved in a misdemeanor hit-and-run. The suspects had fled into the residential area of Eagle Rock, Los Angeles. As LAPD officers approached the rear of a residence where one suspect was observed fleeing, Shriner allegedly emerged in the adjacent yard, brandishing a handgun. Despite multiple directives to disarm, she obstinately refused, subsequently aiming the firearm at the officers, which precipitated an exchange of gunfire, wherein Shriner sustained injuries from the shooting and retreated indoors.
Following the encounter, she was apprehended and transported to a local medical facility for treatment of a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. Notably, Shriner was not involved in the original hit-and-run incident, yet was nonetheless booked for attempted murder in absentia. A nine-millimeter handgun was recovered from her property.
Attempts to obtain comments from Shriner’s management were met with silence from Rolling Stone.
Jillian Shriner is the author of two acclaimed memoirs: Some Girls: My Life in a Harem, published in 2010, and Everything You Ever Wanted, released in May 2015, both of which garnered New York Times bestseller status.
