King Charles is preparing to upgrade his aging helicopters this year as the Crown Estates’ profits surged to £1.1 million last year.
The monarchy is set to receive an additional £45 million in funding during the 2025/2026 financial year, thanks to the rising profits in 2023/2024. This increase is due to the Sovereign Grant, which allocates 12% of the net profits of the Crown Estate to the royal family based on funds earned two years prior.
Despite the boost in funding, the household’s income will remain at £86.3 million in the 2024/2025 financial year. This money is used to cover the expenses of running the royal household and supporting the monarchy’s activities, including transportation to formal events.
To replace over 170 helicopter journeys, the royalty will acquire two new AgustaWestland AW139s. Additionally, initiatives are in place to make the monarchy more eco-friendly, with plans for solar panels at Windsor Castle and the conversion of two State Bentleys to run on biofuel.
The Crown plans to focus on sustainability and efficiency in the coming years, with investments in green technologies and initiatives. These developments reflect a modern approach to monarchy, embracing new technologies while upholding traditional values.
