UK Exposes Evil Corp’s Father-Son Duo in Hacking Group

The UK, US, and Australia have imposed sanctions on 16 individuals suspected of being part of a notorious cybercrime gang known as Evil Corp. This group, based in Russia, is accused of stealing approximately $300 million through hacking over almost a decade. The gang’s leader, Maksim Yakubets, along with his father Viktor Yakubets, has come under scrutiny by the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA). Despite previous denials, it has been revealed that Viktor Yakubets supported his son in the criminal activities. This disclosure is part of a collaborative effort to disrupt Evil Corp and another hacking group called LockBit.

Evil Corp is infamous for their destructive cyber-attacks globally, operating in a mafia-style manner for over ten years. Maksim Yakubets has a $5 million bounty on his head, and his brother Artem has also been named in US sanctions. Additionally, Maksim’s father-in-law and a former high-ranking FSB official have been sanctioned for their involvement with Evil Corp. The NCA’s actions signal a strong message against Russian cyber-attacks, showing that authorities are vigilant and determined to hold cybercriminals accountable.
