Seedance 2.0 is only available in China right now. It allows users to make high-quality AI videos using simple text. People in the movie and TV industry quickly criticized this tool.
The Motion Picture Association said Seedance 2.0 uses U.S. protected works without permission. They claimed it does this on a large scale. Charles Rivkin, the chairman of the MPA, asked ByteDance to stop these actions immediately. He said this breaks copyright laws that protect creators.
Screenwriter Rhett Rheese talked about this on X. He wrote the “Deadpool” films. He worried that this might end creative jobs.
The actors’ union SAG-AFTRA said it supports studios in opposing Seedance 2.0. They say the tool uses their members’ voices and images without permission. ByteDance replied that it respects copyright laws. They are working to improve their protection measures.
