Lewis Hamilton celebrated a successful weekend after the “F1” movie won an Academy Award for Best Sound on Sunday. Hamilton co-produced the film and made a brief appearance in it. The film was nominated for four awards, including Best Picture and Visual Effects, but won only for sound. Hamilton received a mention in the acceptance speech.
Hamilton could not attend the ceremony due to the Chinese Grand Prix, where he achieved his first podium finish with Ferrari after 26 attempts. He finished behind Kimi Antonelli, the first-time race winner, and his Mercedes teammate George Russell. Hamilton remarked that he explored every possible way to attend the Oscars, but ultimately could not make it.
The Grand Prix took place in Shanghai, which is a 12.5-hour flight from Los Angeles. Even with a 15-hour time difference, it was impossible for Hamilton to reach the ceremony on time.
Earlier in the week, Hamilton mentioned he would connect via FaceTime with director Joseph Kosinski and producer Jerry Bruckheimer during the ceremony. He expressed pride in the film’s success and the increased interest in Formula 1, noting that it is great to see new fans excited about the sport.
The film “F1” also received a Grammy last month for Chris Stapleton’s song, “Bad As I Used To Be,” and won a BAFTA for Best Sound. Hamilton is currently fourth in the championship, heading into the Japanese Grand Prix on March 29.
